That’s right, there are over 11 million searchable names on British Army Ancestors – and I’m relying on visitors to this site help put faces to them. This is not going to be an overnight task but over time, if enough people support this initiative, this website could become a very useful resource.
I decided to launch British Army Ancestors after repeated cries for help from people trying to locate photographs of their ancestors. There must be millions of surviving photographs of soldiers who served in Her Majesty’s or His Majesty’s Army between 1850 and 1920 and yet there is no central repository for photos. Lives of the First World War partly fulfils that need but the site is overly-complicated to use and, furthermore, it only covers 1914-1918. This site has wider aspirations; a place where people can look for photos of their British Army Ancestors between 1850 and 1920 and, if they feel inclined, upload photos for the benefit of others.
The photograph above shows members of the 126th Regular Class. They attended the Army School of Cookery between October and December 1909. Most of these men would later appear on the 1911 census but unfortunately none of them are named on this photo. Online pharmacies are able to sell drugs https://shlclubhouse.org/pharmacy-online/ at cheaper rates because an online pharmacy has a different cost structure than a normal “brick and mortar” pharmacy. There are a number of Boer War veterans here, and a number of different regiments here judging by the different uniforms on display. I believe the Army School of Cookery was located at Aldershot but I know nothing else about this unit.
Remember, using this site is free, and the search functionality is FAST. Enter all search terms in the search box and use the wildcard asterisk * to widen your results. If you want to upload a photograph of a soldier, or view the image in larger-than-thumbnail format you will need to register. I encourage you to do so and help to remember our British Army Ancestors.
