I recently won at auction an album of photographs documenting the officers and men of the 2nd Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment in the early years of the 20th Century. This is one of the photos from that album and shows officers, mostly of the 2nd Battalion, probably in Ceylon in about 1906. I will have more to say about some of these men in due course.
Back row:
Captain Leslie Claude Dorman, Lt Johnstone Percy Lipyeatt Stoney, Lt William Lister Newcombe, Capt Basil Kenrick Wing Bacon (KiA 13th Dec 1914), Lt Percy Roger Whalley, Capt D’Arcy Hemsworth Kay, Quarter Master James Ralston
Middle row:
Lt Col Walter Dermott Holland, Maj Hugh de Berdt-Hovell, Col Hickman, Col Payne, Lt Col Edward Charles Ingouville-Williams, Lt Col George White Lewis, Capt & Adjt Henry Arbuthnot Carr
Front row:
Lt Thomas Kenyon Pardoe, Capt William Beresford Gibbs (KiA 3rd Sep 1916), Lt Bowcher Campbell Senhouse Clarke, Lt John Cunliffe Pickersgill-Cunliffe (KiA 4th Jun 1915), Lt Edward Wade Bateman, Capt Martin Raymond Carr (KiA 18th Sep 1914).
Thomas Pardoe was the owner of this album which includes photos taken in Ceylon, India and South Africa, as well as photos from his home in the UK. There is a lot of research potential here and the album will be of particular interest to anyone with Worcestershire Regiment leanings.

Hi there,
Could you keep an eye out for any photos which name Pte/Cpl/Serjeant William Hewitt Winter? He was 2/Worcesters and attested in 1905. Was subsequently KIA in 1916 (Military Medal awarded) and I’m doing a research project on him. Be great if any early photos exist of him. Many thanks in advance, Fi
Yes of course, Fi. In the meantime, if you’ve not done so already, please read my research tips on the about page of this website. Paul.
Hi Paul,
Three of my relatives served in the 2nd Battalion in the period covered by this album: 4316 C. Sjt. George Frederick Eccleshall, his brother 9351 Pte./Sjt. Thomas Ernest Eccleshall and his brother-in-law 4320 Sjt. James Toole. It would be great if there were any photos of any of them in the album, are you planning on doing anything with the photos to put them online?
Best wishes, Jim
Hello Jim
I don’t have plans to publish anything more from this album at present. There are some group photographs of the battalion and some company photographs too, but these are not named, unfortunately. I shall probably sell the album in due course.
Paul
Hiya, were any taken at the Albany barracks on the IoW?
Not as far as I am aware from the information in the album, RobsAly.
